We have, over the last year been working slate blocks that have been standing for many years, which has produced nameplates, small plaques and headstones. In addition, for larger sizes we have worked Blue Grey Ffestiniog slate and Heather Blue Penrhyn slate which has been finished to our usual high standard.
We now have in stock 25 kilo prepacked bags of 20mm Aberllefenni slate chippings, sold individually or on a pallet containing 40 bags weighing one ton.
In addition we are creating slate water features, obelisks and sculptures for the garden, as well as our rockery stones and paving, examples of all these can be seen in our new garden at the front of the factory.
These products are proving very popular, as creative design in the gardens seems to be something everyone can enjoy.

Who’s Who -
Bev Pearce has worked in the office at Aberllefenni since 1996.
Bev was born in Caerphilly, South Wales , during the Suez crisis, and went to school in St. David's Ursuline Convent, Brecon, as a boarder, returning home to be with her mother when her father died when she was 14, becoming a day pupil at Bassaleg Grammar School, Newport, South Wales.
Bev has had a wide variety of jobs around bringing up 3 children, ranging from Veterinary Nurse to Restaurant Manager to Legal Secretary, before finally coming to rest in Wincilate offices in 1996.
Now living in Aberllefenni, a stone's throw from the office, Bev still drives the 300 yards to work. Her hobbies include driving too fast, and dancing too much
Bev is first contact with Wincilate and carries out all the administrative duties on behalf of the company.

1. ABERLLEFENNI BLUE BLACK WELSH SLATE
Aberllefenni Welsh Slate is still available but in limited quantities.
2. FFESTINIOG BLUE GREY WELSH SLATE
Ffestiniog Welsh slate is readily available in large sizes and in all thicknesses. The slate is selected by Wincilate at the quarry and the slate is subject to natural veining.
3. PENRHYN HEATHER BLUE WELSH SLATE
Penrhyn Heather Blue Welsh Slate is available in all thicknesses. The slate is selected by Wincilate at the quarry and the slate is heather in colour and has green veins and spots.

Wincilate continue to supply quality welsh slate.
Since closing its mine in Aberllefenni Wincilate has diversified very successfully. The vast slate reserves are now being crushed and sold for sub base for road contracts and also bagged into 25 kilo bags for sale in garden centres for paths and mulch.
The process of crushing the slate involves selecting smaller pieces so the larger blocks in excess of ˝ ton are kept aside and if suitable sawn to make small plaques and nameplates in Aberllefenni welsh slate.
Many large blocks could not be worked over 100 years ago if they could not be split but modern machinery now enables the old blocks to be sawn into plaques and nameplates. Blocks that are not suitable for sawing are sold as slate boulders for garden features and rustic memorials.
Owing to the crushing process slate is also selected from the tips for garden and landscape products such as boulders,walling, rockery and garden features.The current Channel 4 programme “The Landscape Man” http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-landscape-man/4od 6th edition appearing at the end of May features a garden locally where 20 tons of Aberllefenni slate was used in many different ways.
Wincilate Ltd has always specialised in bespoke architectural and memorial welsh slate and it still does from Ffestiniog and Penrhyn welsh slate. The slate scants are carefully selected by Wincilate Ltd to produce architectural and memorial products such as cills, coping and memorials. There is still a demand for welsh slate memorials and selection at the quarry is essential and machining by Wincilate ensures the best material and workmanship available. Wincilate have recently supplied 10 tons of headstones and plaques to a monumental mason in Cornwall.
Architectural slate is also an important part of Wincilate’s product range. In 2009 Wincilate supplied over 500 replacement cills for the new British Legion Headquarters in London. Haigh House was purchased by the British Legion and was completely refurbished. All the old asbestos cills were replaced with welsh slate cills. All cills varied slightly in size and all 500 had to be machined to tight tolerances.
Currently Wincilate has a contract for supplying 15 tons of cladding for a new house in Malshanger near Basingstoke as well as slate for cills, kerbing, and steps.
